COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course will give you the knowledge to understand basic principles of scuba diving, portion of the course will be independent study online, and in a classroom.

5 pool sessions to learn basic scuba skills.

6 Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!

Basic skills geared toward public safety.

Who should take this course?

If you have the opportunity to work with local authorities and be part of a scuba diving rescue team, or conduct search and recovery dives, and maybe even underwater criminal investigations, this is the course for you. Although public safety diving can be a fun and exciting adventure, it’s serious and requires special training. This course gives you a solid foundation to build upon and teaches you both surface and underwater skills that you may need on the job.

To enroll in a Public Safety Diver course, you must be certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver and at least 18 years old. You also must show that you are affiliated with a public safety team (firefighter, paramedic, EMT & law enforcement etc.) and need to earn your Rescue Diver certification by the end of the course.

Duration – 5 days (40 hours)

Recommended for – Public Safety personnel

Prerequisites

• At least 18 years of age
• Member of a public safety agency
• Reading and properly completing RSTC Medical form* you will receive this form during the class
• This program is designed for personnel who are physically fit. Participants are encouraged to participate after successfully completing the IADRS Watermanship Test or testing to a fitness level of 13 MET (Metabolic Equivalents) or greater. Participants with aerobic fitness questions or concerns should consult their physician prior to in-water training. Participants who have poor aerobic fitness may attend this program as surface support personnel with the approval of the instructor.

Required Equipment for both classes:

MUST BE SERVICED WITHIN THE PAST 12 MONTHS

• Regulator with primary and secondary 2nd stages, pressure gauge, depth gauge, and compass
• Buoyancy compensator with whistle attached
• (2) scuba air cylinders, visually inspected within the past 12 months
• Weight belt
• Mask & snorkel
• Fins and booties
• Skin or light weight wetsuit (recommended)
• (2) cutting devices; a knife and/or rescue scissors
• Primary (large and powerful) flashlight for use on the evening dive
