Course Description: This course is the basis for conducting safe and systematic rescues in trench situations. It addresses the job performance requirements and the requisite knowledge and skills. This course covers several technical aspects involved in trench rescue; with the use of traditional classroom and practical exercises.
The subjects covered include: This course meets NFPA 1670’s requirements. Students will be provided with the understanding of OSHA CFR—1926 Subpart P, standard, and its role in Trench Rescue. They will also be exposed to the operations level of Trench Rescue and all involved; ex. determining the need for Trench Rescue Operations, risk-benefit analysis, hazards associated with trenches, determining soil type, proper sheeting & shoring techniques, patient package and removal techniques.
Students at this level can work in a nonintersecting trench up to 8 feet in depth.
This course is designed to meet or exceed the applicable sections of NFPA 1670, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents.
